A comprehensive orientation program has been launched for Ghana’s 115 first-time Members of Parliament (MPs) in the 9th Parliament, aimed at equipping them with the skills and knowledge required for effective legislative work.
The program, which commenced on January 11, 2025, is designed to familiarize new MPs with parliamentary procedures, ethical standards, and the roles they are expected to play in governance. With nearly half of the 275-seat Parliament being newcomers, this initiative is seen as crucial to ensuring the smooth functioning of the legislative body.
Participants are being introduced to the rules and regulations governing parliamentary business, committee work, legislative drafting, and effective constituency relations. Seasoned parliamentarians and parliamentary staff are facilitating sessions, sharing their expertise and practical insights.
This orientation is part of Parliament’s initiative to equip all MPs, particularly the 115 first-time members, with the knowledge and skills needed to actively participate in legislative processes and contribute to national development.
The program will run over the next few days, featuring interactive sessions aimed at enhancing the MPs’ capacities and promoting a spirit of collaboration within Parliament.
