A significant fire erupted at the Techiman Market in Ghana’s Bono East Region on January 13, 2025, causing extensive damage to numerous stalls and goods. The blaze primarily affected areas selling spiritual perfumes, incense, and oils, leading to substantial losses for traders.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Ghana National Fire Service was contacted promptly; however, some claimed responding units lacked sufficient water to combat the flames effectively. This alleged shortage hindered initial firefighting efforts, allowing the fire to spread rapidly.
In response to the escalating situation, additional fire service teams from Wenchi, Sunyani, and Nkoranza were dispatched to the scene. Their combined efforts eventually brought the fire under control, preventing further destruction. Notably, three individuals affected by the incident were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
