Following a month of unsuccessful investigations into the murder of a renowned chop bar operator in Anloga, the Tetteh and Ametewe family has turned to the Nogokpo Yewe Shrine for spiritual intervention to uncover the perpetrators.
The family sought and received approval from the Dufia of Anloga and Dome Fiaga of the Anlo State, Togbi Zewu IV, to announce their intention through a traditional gong-gong beating in the town. In his letter dated January 19, 2025, Togbi Zewu confirmed his support for the family’s decision to seek justice through the shrine’s deity, Zakadza.
“The announcement is essential to inform the community about your plan to engage the Yewe Shrine at Nogokpo in your search for the perpetrators of Madam Dorcas Korkor Tetteh’s murder,” Togbi Zewu wrote.
The Nogokpo Shrine, located in the Ketu South Municipality, is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most powerful spiritual sanctuaries. It is often sought by individuals seeking justice in unresolved or mysterious cases. Zakadza, the shrine’s thunder god, is believed to deliver retribution to wrongdoers, particularly in cases of violent crimes such as murder.
A priest at the shrine, Dogbatsey Tengey, explained the process involved in such cases. After rituals are performed, emissaries beat the gong-gong, inviting the perpetrators to confess and face justice. If no confession is made, further rituals are conducted, after which the god’s wrath is believed to target the guilty party and, potentially, their extended family.
“Zakadza’s power is stronger than ever, and those responsible for this crime should be prepared for the consequences if they do not come forward,” Togbi Tengey warned.
The Awadada (War Lord) of Anlo, Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, acknowledged the spiritual efforts as a complementary measure to the ongoing police investigations. He noted that even in modern societies, law enforcement agencies sometimes seek alternative methods to resolve complex cases.
The tragic death of Madam Dorcas Korkor Tetteh, 60, has left the Anloga community in shock. The operator of “The Base Chopbar” was discovered lifeless in her home on December 28, 2024, following a suspected robbery. Initial reports indicated signs of forced entry, with metal bars removed from her windows and bruises found on her body.
