Wenchi Methodist Hospital, assembly set to conduct mass burial for 28 unclaimed bodies

The Wenchi Methodist Hospital, in collaboration with the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, has announced plans to conduct a mass burial for 28 unclaimed bodies currently stored in the hospital’s morgue.

The hospital revealed that the bodies, which have remained unidentified for nearly three years, have caused significant congestion in the facility, disrupting its operations. Despite several efforts to locate the families of the deceased, no claims have been made.

In a statement signed by the Wenchi Municipal Coordinating Director, Jimah Yakubu, the hospital expressed concern over the situation, citing the potential health risks and operational challenges posed by the prolonged storage of the bodies. To address the issue, the burial is scheduled to take place from Thursday, January 23, 2025, to Friday, January 31, 2025.

The hospital has issued a final notice to the public, urging families with missing relatives to come forward for identification and possible collection of the bodies before the burial.

The statement called for public cooperation to ensure a respectful and dignified burial for the deceased while emphasizing the importance of proactive engagement to prevent such occurrences in the future.
