MoH closes Techiman Krobo Nursing Training College over student unrest

The Ministry of Health has ordered the immediate temporary closure of the Nursing Training College at Techiman Krobo following unrest and a breakdown in discipline on campus.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 29, the Ministry said the decision was necessary to restore order and safeguard students, staff and property after efforts to resolve the situation through dialogue proved unsuccessful.

The Ministry attributed the closure to ongoing disturbances and persistent violations of the institution’s rules and regulations.

It explained that several engagements involving key stakeholders had been held to restore peace, including meetings, counselling sessions and appeals by the Regional Security Council and the Ministry. However, some students allegedly continued to engage in actions that disrupted academic activities and threatened the safety and orderly administration of the college.

According to the statement, the temporary closure will allow the appropriate authorities to assess the situation and determine the measures required before the institution can safely reopen.

The Ministry said the move is intended to restore calm, protect lives and property, and create a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

As part of the directive, all students have been instructed to vacate the campus peacefully and return home by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Parents and guardians have also been advised to make the necessary arrangements to receive their wards.

The Ministry assured students, parents and other stakeholders that every effort is being made to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.

It added that the date for the reopening of the college would be announced through official communication channels once conditions are deemed suitable.

The Ministry also appealed for the cooperation and understanding of all stakeholders as authorities work to restore a safe, peaceful and disciplined learning environment at the institution.
