A woman and her two children have been allegedly shot and killed by unidentified gunmen in Bawku, deepening tensions in the area.
The attack occurred around 2 a.m. in Tensungo, a neighborhood near a military camp. According to Citi News, the assailants, reportedly dressed in military uniforms, stormed the victims’ home and opened fire.
Assemblymember for the Tensungo Electoral Area, Mohammed Saani, confirmed the incident.
“The incident was reported to me, and I immediately informed the police. The military also arrived, and we transported the bodies to the hospital for confirmation,” he told Citi News.
While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, the killings have heightened fear among residents, especially as Bawku has experienced sporadic violence in recent months.
This latest incident brings the total number of deaths in the area to 45 since October 2024. The last reported killing occurred on January 25, when a 13-year-old boy was shot in the same vicinity.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement, but investigations are ongoing.
