National Security uncovers counterfeit cash and suspected gold in major raid

In a high-stakes operation, National Security has intercepted twelve shipping containers allegedly filled with counterfeit U.S. dollars, Ghana cedi notes, and suspected gold bars in a warehouse at Sapeiman, Ga South Municipality.

The bust, described as one of the most significant in recent years, followed a carefully planned operation triggered by intelligence reports.

A senior National Security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the operation led to the discovery of large amounts of counterfeit Ghana cedi notes in ₵50 and ₵100 denominations, alongside fake Ghana Army uniforms and boots.

Authorities say the seized currency—mostly fake U.S. dollars—was hidden in wooden boxes filled with cement, while additional compartments concealed under plywood and sealed with charcoal contained more cash.

Security operatives are now on the hunt for four prime suspects, including a ringleader known only as Alhaji. Meanwhile, two more containers linked to the operation remain missing, but security sources say tracking measures are in place to locate them.

“The scale of this operation suggests a well-coordinated syndicate with access to sophisticated forgery techniques,” the security official noted.

The presence of metals suspected to be gold bars adds another layer of complexity to the investigation. Officials are conducting tests to determine their authenticity.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious financial dealings as investigations continue.
