The driver responsible for the tragic hit-and-run accident that claimed the lives of Davida Asante Boateng and Lilian Akorli has been arrested, family sources confirm.
The heartbreaking incident happened on March 7, 2025, along the Achimota Highway. Davida and Lilian, both former students of Achimota School and members of the Old Achimotan Association 2024 (OAA24), were on their way back to the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) after attending Achimota School’s annual bonfire celebration.
Eyewitnesses reported that a black Toyota Corolla struck the two young women before the driver sped off without stopping to help. Passersby rushed them to the hospital, where they arrived at about 12:02 a.m. Despite efforts to save them, Davida was pronounced dead around 4 a.m. on March 8, and Lilian passed away later that morning.
Their sudden deaths have left their families, the Achimota School community, and their peers at UPSA in deep mourning. The tragedy has also reignited calls for better road safety measures along the Achimota Highway to prevent such incidents in the future.
Confirming the arrest, Davida’s aunt, Alice Safoa, revealed that police tracked down the driver after a chase on the night of the incident. According to her, the driver sought refuge at a hospital, fearing an attack from angry eyewitnesses. He was later taken into custody but had to receive medical attention before being transferred back to the police cells.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is still ongoing as authorities work to ensure justice for the victims and their families.
