The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations has initiated an investigation following a cybersecurity incident that has impacted about 5,700 customers of telecommunication giant, MTN Ghana.
The Ministry announced in a public advisory on Tuesday April 29, that, it is collaborating closely with the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), the National Communications Authority (NCA), and the Data Protection Commission (DPC) to assess the extent of the breach and pinpoint any vulnerabilities that may have contributed to it.
Authorities are also looking to ascertain whether MTN, as the Mobile Network Operator, holds any responsibility for the incident.
The Advisory further reassured customers that the ministry is taking all necessary measures to protect their data in accordance with Data Protection Laws.
“The ministry will ensure that affected customers are contacted in line with Data Protection Laws”, part of the advisory stated.
