The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has expressed that he is confident the Attorney-General’s Department will secure convictions in the corruption case against Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), and his spouse, Angela Adjei Boateng.
The couple, along with two other accused persons; Mildred Donkor and Advantage Solutions Limited, faces a total of 11 charges related to corruption, involving sums amounting to several million Ghana cedis.
During a press briefing held on Wednesday, April 30, Dr. Ayine emphasized that the charges are results of thorough and meticulous investigations conducted by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), led by Mr. Raymond Archer.
“With particular reference to the case and the review, the diligent investigations by EOCO give me a high level of hope and confidence that, all things being equal, I will obtain convictions on most, if not all, of the charges that I have preferred today,” Dr. Ayine remarked.
He highlighted the substantial evidence gathered so far, which includes comprehensive bank statements, deposit slips, cheque numbers, and direct testimonies from individuals closely familiar with the alleged dealings.
“Primary persons who were close to the action have agreed, after interrogation, to testify in this matter,” he noted.
In response to criticisms regarding the timing and purpose of the press conference, some suggesting it may be politically motivated, the Attorney-General defended his actions, stating: “Let it be known that unlike some presidents in the past who were misled, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama is on top of his brief and cannot be misled”.
Meanwhile the former Director-General of the NSB, Mr. Adu Boahene and his wife have firmly denied all allegations concerning GH₵ 49 million (around $7 million) linked to purported fraudulent contracts, as their chargesheet offers.
