Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has called on the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to expedite the release of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results in order to reduce the anxiety among students and the general public.
Speaking at the 2025 WAEC Distinction Awards Ceremony on Thursday, June 26, the minister Iddrisu praised WAEC and the Ghana Education Service (GES) for their efforts in conducting a successful examination, but emphasized that results should be released in a timely manner.
“Let me commend you for a very successful BECE examination. What we expect from you now is the early, timely release of the results so that anxiety and anxiousness in the students will go down,” he stated.
He further revealed the government’s plan to introduce a new legislative framework aimed at regulating the awarding of scholarships in the country.
“Within the few weeks to come, I will introduce the Ghana Scholarship Authority Bill to Parliament on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, as he promised Ghanaians, to deal with the issue of nepotism that was associated with the award of scholarships,” he announced, and called on the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education, Peter Nortsu Kotoe, to support the bill when it is presented in Parliament.
