The Ghana Education Service (GES) has reinstated Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) across all pre-tertiary schools in the country, following a directive from President John Dramani Mahama.
The announcement was made today, July 17, in a press release signed by the Head of Public Relations at GES, Daniel Fenyi.
In the statement, the GES said the move is “aimed at strengthening the collaboration and involvement of parents, communities and teachers in the delivery of quality education to Ghanaian learners.”
GES has directed all Heads of Public Senior High, Technical and STEM schools to implement the policy with immediate effect.
Further guidelines “detailing the structure, roles, and financial accountability mechanisms” for PTAs will be issued in due course to ensure “transparency, uniformity, and efficiency in the operations of PTAs nationwide.”
GES also urged stakeholders to support the smooth and effective implementation of the policy.
On January 14, 2019, GES issued a directive suspending the payment of all PTA levies and fees at Senior High School as well as Technical and Vocational schools across the country. The Director General of the GES, Professor Opoku Amankwa cited some anomalies associated with the payment and administration of the levies.
