Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has confirmed that discussions are underway with Jamaican dancehall star Vybz Kartel about hosting a concert at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Ampofo Ankrah acknowledged the engagement amid growing anticipation over a possible December event at the 40,000-capacity venue.
“There has been engagement, there has been contact, and for now, that’s all I can say,” he stated.
The news has sparked mixed reactions music lovers are excited, but football fans are concerned about potential pitch damage. The NSA chief addressed this, saying the stadium isn’t just a football pitch but a multi-use facility with various amenities.
While the stadium has previously hosted major artists like Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, concerns remain over pitch preservation during such events. In the past, inadequate protection has led to damaged surfaces, with the Baba Yara Stadium still under CAF sanctions following similar issues.
Despite these concerns, excitement is building online, with fans eagerly anticipating a potential collaboration between Vybz Kartel and Shatta Wale if the event goes ahead.
