Parliament has approved visa waiver agreements with Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe, Colombia, and the Commonwealth of Dominica, paving the way for easier travel between Ghana and these countries.
The agreements apply to holders of diplomatic, service, and ordinary passports, allowing visa-free entry for short stays. Lawmakers say the move will promote stronger bilateral ties and boost cooperation in sectors like trade, tourism, education, and agriculture.
Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Committee, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, noted that the initiative is part of Ghana’s broader efforts to expand international partnerships and foster regional integration.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa assured Parliament that the waiver will not lead to any direct revenue loss, explaining that the expected economic benefits from increased travel and collaboration far outweigh the exemption of visa fees.
