Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has called on Ghanaians to unite in honour of the eight government officials and military officers who perished in the recent military helicopter crash.
According to him, the tragedy should serve as a rallying point for national cohesion rather than political division.
“This is a national tragedy and yesterday, on behalf of the Judicial Service Secretariat, I released a statement of condolence to His Excellency the President, the Government and People of Ghana, and the bereaved families. Now we are here to commiserate with the President by laying our flowers,” he stated.
He emphasised that the fallen men died in the cause of duty and their legacy must inspire citizens to serve the nation with dedication.
Speaking at a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Jubilee House, he said, “We should forge ahead in national unity and not politicize their deaths. We should all hold on to the legacy they left behind and serve our nation to the best of our ability,” Justice Baffoe-Bonnie said.
The wreath-laying formed part of national mourning activities to honour the late Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, NADMO Deputy CEO Samuel Aboagye, the NDC National Vice Chairman, and three distinguished military officers.
