The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has inaugurated the Ghana Gold Board Tribunal, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening governance and accountability in the country’s gold sector.
According to Dr. Ato Forson, the establishment of the Tribunal marks an important step toward strengthening governance and accountability in Ghana’s gold sector.
“The establishment of this Tribunal is an important step in strengthening governance and accountability in our gold sector,” he stated.
He announced the inauguration on his Facebook page, on Tuesday, 19th August 2025.
In line with Section 55 of the Ghana Gold Board Act, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed three distinguished professionals to serve on the Tribunal. They are:
- Biadela Mortey Akpadzi – Chairman
- Hamidu Mariam – Member
- Justin Pwavra Teriwajah – Member
The Tribunal has been mandated to consider appeals arising from decisions of the Gold Board, disputes relating to licensing issues under the law, and matters referred by the Board’s Dispute Resolution Committee.
Dr. Forson congratulated the appointees on their new roles and assured them of government’s full support. He revealed that a Registrar and administrative staff would soon be appointed to ensure the smooth functioning of the Tribunal.
The Ghana Gold Board was established to regulate, manage, and promote responsible gold trade in Ghana, and the setting up of the Tribunal is expected to further enhance transparency and investor confidence in the sector.
