Brigadier General Michael Kwadwo Opoku
The legal team of Brigadier General Michael Kwadwo Opoku has dismissed reports suggesting he was arrested by National Security operatives.
In a statement signed by his counsel, Gary Nimako Marfo, the legal team described the report as defamatory and called on Opera News, the publishers, to issue an immediate apology and retraction.
The publication, according to the lawyers, attempted to link the senior military officer to a stockpile of ammunition.
“Our client’s attention has been drawn to a defamatory publication on your online news portal in which you published that our client was arrested following a National Security operation which led to the discovery of ammunition. We wish to bring to your attention that our client has not been involved in any such incident,” the statement said.
His lawyers further accused the outlet of engaging in “unethical journalism” for failing to verify facts before publication.
They stressed that Brigadier General Opoku has not been involved in any such incident and warned Opera News to retract the story without delay.
