The Dansoman Circuit Court has sentenced 48-year-old head porter, Yaw Asare, to two years’ imprisonment for unlawfully damaging road infrastructure on the newly constructed Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange in Accra.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Roads and Highways on Thursday, 22 August, 2025, Asare was convicted on the charge of causing unlawful damage contrary to Section 172 of the Criminal Offences Act (Act 29), following his arrest on June 9, 2025.
He was found guilty of tampering with parapet beams and accessories on the interchange, one of the capital’s major road projects.
The Ministry of Roads and Highways expressed deep concern over the growing trend of vandalism and damage to public road infrastructure. The Ministry noted that such acts ranging from damage to road furniture and parapets to vehicular crashes that destroy traffic lights undermine investments in critical national infrastructure.
“The Ministry reminds the public that causing unlawful damage to public infrastructure is an offence,” the statement stressed, warning that offenders will face the full rigours of the law.
It further assured the public that it will continue to collaborate with the Ghana Police Service to safeguard road assets and ensure accountability for anyone caught vandalising them.
