Former Energy Minister, Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko, has officially declared his intention to contest the position of National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement dated 30th September 2025, Mr. Agyarko said he arrived at the decision after wide consultations with his family and close associates, as well as listening to calls from within and outside the party.
Mr. Agyarko, who served as Energy Minister in President Nana Akufo-Addo’s first term until 2018, is a founding member of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition. He previously contested the NPP presidential primaries and has been an active voice in the party’s internal and national politics.
His announcement adds weight to the race for the chairmanship slot, which is expected to be fiercely contested when nominations open.
