Buaben Asamoa blasts NPP ‘arrogance’, says party has lost its soul
Former NPP Communications Director and now General Secretary of the United Party (UP), Yaw Buaben Asamoa, has launched a blistering attack on the New Patriotic Party, accusing its leadership of arrogance, moral decay, and betrayal of its founding values.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Thursday, Mr. Asamoa said the party he once proudly served has strayed far from the ideals of integrity, humility, and service that once defined it.
“The NPP became too arrogant,” he said, stressing that the party’s successes have been overshadowed by pride and a disregard for the ordinary Ghanaian. “Everything they performed was overshadowed by the lack of humaneness. For me, that is the biggest problem that party has. It got too arrogant.”
Mr. Asamoa ruled out any possibility of returning to the NPP, saying it no longer represents the values it claims to uphold. “I don’t intend to go back to the NPP. They don’t have values. First of all, let’s examine the NPP, which NPP are we talking about now?” he asked.
He accused the current leadership of abandoning the party’s ideological roots and allowing personal ambition to replace principle. According to him, the once value-driven party has become an empty shell, disconnected from the grassroots and obsessed with political power.
“The conservative tradition the NPP once championed has been replaced with entitlement and arrogance,” he said, adding that the party now rewards loyalty to personalities rather than loyalty to principles.
Mr. Asamoa said his new political home, the United Party, offers a clean break from this culture and represents a return to politics anchored on service and integrity. “We’re not building around personalities. We’re building around values,” he noted.
The former Adentan MP, who was expelled from the NPP for supporting Alan Kyerematen, said his focus now is on helping the UP restore the moral compass that Ghana’s politics desperately needs.
“The NPP has lost its way, and we won’t follow it into the wilderness,” he said.
