A soldier has been arrested by the Military Police after a viral CCTV footage captured him assaulting a pharmacy attendant and a female customer at Burma Camp in Accra over a GH¢65 drug refund.
The soldier, identified as Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Mensah Williams of the Ghana Air Force, was seen in the footage storming into the pharmacy in uniform, shouting and demanding an immediate refund for medication he had earlier purchased. The attendant was heard pleading with him to calm down and allow the refund process to be completed, but the officer, visibly enraged, refused to listen.
The CCTV video shows the soldier pushing the pharmacy attendant before turning on a female customer who tried to record the incident with her phone. He violently shoved her and slapped her multiple times while she screamed for help.
Following public outrage, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) confirmed the arrest of WO1 Williams, describing his behaviour as “unprofessional and disgraceful.” In a statement, GAF said the officer is currently in custody and will face disciplinary action and possible prosecution.
“The Ghana Armed Forces wish to assure the public that acts of indiscipline and abuse of authority will not be tolerated,” the statement added.
