Renowned Ghanaian actor William Addo, popularly known as Akpatse, has sadly been reported dead.
The veteran actor is said to have passed away on November 22, 2025, after battling long-term health complications.
William Addo was among the distinguished actors who made a significant mark in Ghana’s film and theatre industry. Over the decades, he excelled as an actor, lecturer, director, and cultural advocate, earning admiration for his dedication and talent.
He became a household name through his iconic performances on GTV’s Thursday Theatre, along with many other notable productions.
Mr. Addo studied Drama and Theatre Studies at the University of Ghana before furthering his education in the United Kingdom, where he obtained a master’s degree in Acting and Directing from the University of Leeds.
Throughout his illustrious career, he held key leadership roles, including Director at the National Theatre and Director of Programmes at the National Commission on Culture. He also served as a lecturer at the Theatre Arts Department, mentoring countless young actors who would later rise to prominence in Ghana’s creative space.
In his later years, William Addo suffered severe visual impairment due to glaucoma and cataracts. His struggles drew support from individuals and groups, including the welfare arm of the Actors Guild, who offered assistance during those challenging times.
His passing marks the loss of yet another pillar in Ghana’s arts and entertainment industry.
