Authorities in Ghana have detained Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum, a 26-year-old Nigerian accused of abducting and murdering a woman and her daughter in Nigeria. The suspect fled to Ghana in an apparent attempt to evade justice but was tracked and arrested in Akyem Wenchi near Akwatia.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command credited timely intelligence for the operation, highlighting the growing role of cross-border cooperation in combating crime. Police said Fejemirokum had been sheltered by acquaintances in the area, emphasizing the need for communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
Speaking to journalists in Kibi, DCOP Ohene Boadi Bossman said the suspect would first be held at Police Headquarters in Accra before being handed over to Nigerian authorities. He noted that some foreigners have entered mining communities illegally, but that ongoing surveillance and intelligence work help to prevent criminal activity.
The arrest is being seen as a demonstration of Ghana’s commitment to regional security and the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing in responding quickly to cross-border crime threats.
