2026 World Cup: Julius Debrah inaugurates 11-member Oversight Committee

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has inaugurated an 11-member Ministerial Oversight Committee to oversee Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The inauguration ceremony was held at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, November 26.

Mr. Debrah urged the committee to carry out its duties with honesty and full dedication to ensure proper coordination ahead of the tournament. He further advised them to consider broader opportunities the World Cup could bring beyond football.

Ghana booked its spot at the global event after a slim 1-0 win against Comoros in Accra on October 12, marking the Black Stars’ fifth World Cup appearance since 2006. He emphasized the need for professionalism and accountability within the committee.

• Stan Xose Dogbe – Office of the President
• Hon. Kofi Adams – Sports and Recreation
• Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa – Foreign Affairs
• Hon. George Opare – Youth Development
• Hon. Yusif Jajah – Deputy Minister, Tourism and Culture
• Ampem Nyarkoh – Deputy Minister, Finance
• Kurt Okraku – GFA President (Chairman)
• Elizabeth Yankah – Deputy National Security Coordinator
• Abedi Pele – Former Footballer
• Mrs. Wilhelmina Asamoah – Chief Director, Sports Ministry
• One member yet to be named

In a related announcement, the government has earmarked GH¢150 million to support Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign. Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson revealed this during the presentation of the 2026 Budget to Parliament on Thursday, November 13. He explained that the investment reflects the government’s commitment to promoting sports and ensuring strong national representation at the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
