New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has stated that the party needs a bold and unifying leader to address its internal challenges and reclaim power in 2028.
His comments come as the NPP gears up to elect its flagbearer from among five contestants, including former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and former Asin South MP, Kennedy Agyapong, on January 31, 2026.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Tuesday, December 16, Bryan Acheampong emphasized that the NPP must transition from a phase of endless discussions to one rooted in action, unity, and a shared vision, adding that this is not just about individual aspirations, but the collective future of both the party and the nation at large.
“All of that belongs to the past. The misconceptions, the talk, the testing of waters, and the preparations are over. The time is now. What we are doing is not for tomorrow, and not for ourselves alone; we are doing it for today, for our party, and for Ghana,” he stated.
He further indicated that addressing the internal challenges within the NPP required a leader who inspires unity and confidence, noting that this was the only way to build a unified front ahead of the 2028 elections.
“There is a clear challenge within our party, and we need a leader who can unite us. We need someone the party can believe in, someone bold enough to lead us and strong enough to win power. We need a leader who can restore discipline to the party and inspire confidence that discipline will be upheld
“We need someone who understands that, as we prepare for the 2028 elections, party supporters must be made relevant. Someone who can call on everyone and say, come, let us work together,” he added.
The Abetifi MP urged party supporters to feel included and motivated to collaborate, emphasizing that whoever leads the NPP into the 2028 general polls must not only make promises but also demonstrate his ability to deliver on those promises.
“When you make these commitments clear to party members, it becomes easier for them to connect with you and place their trust in you. But beyond making promises, a leader must also have faith in their own capacity to deliver, because the same mouth that makes the promise must be capable of fulfilling it,” he charged.
