Three individuals have been arrested for impersonating the Speaker of Parliament and the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team apprehended the suspects, who also posed as other prominent figures. They have been identified as Gideon Awudi, 25; Edem Soku, 33; and Judith Soku, 31. The trio allegedly used social media to impersonate these personalities and defraud unsuspecting victims.
According to a police report, the suspects were additionally involved in mobile money scams, credit card fraud, airtime sales fraud, and online sales fraud across multiple social media platforms.
They were arrested in Sogakope and Dabala in the Volta Region following an intelligence-led operation covering Sogakope, Dzodze, and Penyi.
The suspects remain in police custody and are cooperating with ongoing investigations.
