Nationwide promotion exams for Ghanaian teachers are underway, marking a key step in the career progression of educators across the country. The two-day exercise, which began on Monday and continues today, is designed to evaluate eligible teachers seeking advancement to higher ranks within the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The exams are being held at designated centres across the country, with candidates for different levels scheduled on separate days. Teachers aiming for senior positions, such as Assistant Director I and Deputy Director, are writing their exams today, while those pursuing lower senior ranks sat for theirs on Monday.
GES has emphasised that only shortlisted teachers with official index numbers are permitted to take the exams. Candidates are also required to present valid identification and clearly indicate their staff and index numbers on answer booklets. The measures aim to ensure fairness, credibility, and smooth conduct of the exercise.
Education authorities say this promotion cycle is part of broader efforts to strengthen the teaching profession, reward competence, and encourage professional development. Many teachers view the exams as a critical opportunity to advance their careers, enhance their responsibilities, and increase their impact in classrooms nationwide.
