AFCON 2025: Morocco, Egypt, South Africa through – who else will make the knockouts?

The Africa Cup of Nations 2025 has moved into its final round of group matches, with several teams confirmed in the Round of 16 and others battling for the remaining knockout places.

Hosts Morocco wrapped up Group A as group winners after a convincing 3–0 win over Zambia, finishing the group unbeaten. Ayoub El Kaabi scored twice and Brahim Díaz added another goal as Morocco sealed top spot and advanced to the knockout stage. The defeat confirmed Zambia’s elimination from the tournament.

In Group B, Egypt secured first place after playing to a goalless draw with Angola, ensuring they topped the group without defeat. South Africa claimed the second qualifying spot with a thrilling 3–2 victory over Zimbabwe, with a late penalty sealing the win and sending South Africa through. Angola and Zimbabwe were both eliminated following their final matches.

The final group matchdays today, Tuesday, December 30, will see action in Groups C and D, including matches such as Tanzania versus Tunisia and Uganda versus Nigeria, which could determine additional qualifiers. Other fixtures include Benin versus Senegal and Botswana versus DR Congo, all crucial for shaping the Round of 16 lineup.
