Johannesburg – Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of late Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, was arrested on Thursday after allegedly shooting an employee at his Hyde Park residence in Johannesburg. The incident reportedly followed a dispute at the property, leaving the gardener in critical condition.
South African police responded to the scene, conducting a search of the premises and detaining Mugabe along with another man. Authorities have launched an investigation for attempted murder, while the firearm used in the alleged shooting has yet to be recovered.
The arrest has sparked widespread media attention and public debate in both Zimbabwe and South Africa. Mugabe’s family has largely remained silent on the incident, while authorities have urged the public to allow the legal process to take its course. Legal experts say the case could take several months to resolve, given the serious nature of the charges and the high-profile status of the accused.
