A man was killed in Tamale following a dispute over unpaid Tramadol, a potent opioid painkiller.
The victim reportedly bought two Tramadol tablets for GH¢50 but did not pay, which led to a violent altercation with two suspects, Abubakari Mohammed and Rasheed Sumaila.
According to DSP Bawhh Abdul Jalil, leader of the IGP Special Operations Team, the suspects beat the victim to death and attempted to flee. Abubakari Mohammed was arrested on the Accra-Kumasi Road while trying to escape, and Rasheed Sumaila was later apprehended. Three others, including Sumaila’s father, were also arrested for obstructing police duties.
Abubakari Mohammed admitted to police that the deceased had purchased two 120mg Tramadol tablets at GH¢25 each but failed to pay.
DSP Bawhh said the team also carried out operations that led to the arrest of six additional suspects for possession and sale of suspected Indian hemp and other opioids. The victim’s body has been preserved for further investigation, and evidence has been secured for forensic examination.
