The Ministry of Transport has announced that the renovation of Terminal 2 at Kotoka International Airport is scheduled for completion by July 2026.
The $18 million upgrade is intended to allow Terminal 2 to handle both domestic and international flights, aiming to reduce the growing passenger congestion currently affecting Terminal 3.
Speaking during an inspection of the facility with airline representatives on Wednesday, March 11, Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe said the project is part of broader efforts to improve operational efficiency and strengthen the country’s aviation infrastructure.
“We are here today to inspect the works the contractors are doing to remodel Terminal 2, enabling it to serve both Ghanaians and international passengers. We have toured the facility with the airlines and have seen the progress. It is our hope that by July, the contractors will complete the project on schedule so Terminal 2 can fully play its dual role as both a domestic and international terminal,” he said.
The minister also revealed that the renovation will include updated airport signage, with the current name, Kotoka International Airport, expected to be changed to “Accra International Airport” once the works are finished.
“By the time we are done in July, the name will be replaced with Accra International Airport,” he added.
Mr Nikpe further cautioned that the government will not hesitate to revoke the licences of individuals or groups operating at the Private Jet Terminal who fail to renew their operational permits.
