The Ministry of Education has revealed that Ghana will rejoin the international format of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) from 2026.
Addressing the 74th annual council meeting of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in Accra, Deputy Minister for Education, Clement Apaak, explained that the move was directed by President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
He noted that the decision will allow Ghana to align with other WAEC member countries in conducting the 2026 WASSCE under the Council’s standard framework.
Dr. Apaak also emphasized that the Ministry will maintain strong collaboration with WAEC to preserve the credibility of the exams. He reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with the Council to ensure the integrity and reliability of the examination process.
WAEC had previously halted the WASSCE in March 2020 following the outbreak of COVID-19 and the implementation of measures to contain its spread.
