Accra–Tema Motorway project to be completed by August 2027– Agbodza
Authorities say the Accra–Tema Motorway expansion remains on track for completion by August 2, 2027, following the clearance of all outstanding payments to contractors.
Project Manager Engineer Ben Sackey gave the assurance during a site visit led by Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Agbodza on Tuesday, March 31.
According to the Minister, there is no intention to revise the current timeline. The project manager also maintained that the team is working toward meeting the original deadline without any extension.
Even so, contractors cautioned that certain challenges could affect progress. They identified the relocation of utility lines as a particularly difficult task that may cause delays if not carefully coordinated.
The project, which covers a 19.5-kilometre stretch from the Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout to the Tema Roundabout and involves expanding the road into a 10-lane highway, commenced on January 2, 2024, but has faced setbacks along the way.
Despite the difficulties, officials remain hopeful that improved coordination will keep the project on schedule, ultimately reducing congestion and enhancing traffic movement on the busy route.
