The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has announced the death of two members of its academic community following a deadly road crash at Third Ridge Junction on the Accra–Cape Coast Highway.
In a statement released on Tuesday, April 28, the university said it received the news with “deep shock and sorrow,” confirming the passing of Dr. Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, and his teaching assistant, Mr. Peter Amoadu-Asmah.
UCC indicated that both men died in the early hours of Tuesday when a Toyota Corolla they were travelling in collided with a HOWO tipper truck.
Five other individuals were injured in the accident and were taken to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for medical care.
Dr. Agyemang was described as a committed academic and respected figure within the university, recognised for his work in teaching, research, and service.
“His immense contributions and presence will be greatly missed by colleagues, students, and all who had the opportunity to work with him,” the statement noted.
Mr. Amoadu-Asmah, who was undertaking his National Service, was a recent graduate of the same department and had been recognised as the overall best graduating student.
The university expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and pledged its support during this difficult time.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult period,” the statement added.
UCC also appealed to the public, especially the media, to handle the matter with care and sensitivity.
