A driver appeared before the Amasaman Circuit Court this week charged with defiling a 12-year-old girl, with the case traced back to a grandmother who noticed something was wrong after searching for her granddaughter one evening in March.
Philip Asare, 35, has denied the charge. Presiding judge Ms Susanna Nyakotey remanded him in custody and set May 7, 2026 as the next court date.
According to Police Inspector Nana Yaa Ofori Appau, who presented the facts to the court, Asare is a neighbour of the victim’s family in Manhean and allegedly began making advances toward the girl as far back as January 2026. On the night of March 4, at around 8pm, he allegedly lured her into his room.
The grandmother, who had been searching for the child, spotted her emerging from Asare’s porch approximately an hour later. The girl later disclosed what had happened, prompting the grandmother to file a formal complaint with the Amasaman Police. A medical form was subsequently issued for the victim’s examination and treatment, and Asare was charged following investigations.
