The Ghana Education Service has published the official academic calendar for the 2026/2027 school year for all basic schools, including Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High Schools.
In a statement signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations, the Service outlined the reopening and closing dates for each term, as well as the timetable for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
First Term (15 Weeks)
The first term will begin on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, and end on Thursday, 17 December 2026. A two-day mid-term break is scheduled for 5 and 6 November 2026. Vacation for the term will run from 18 December 2026 to 4 January 2027.
Second Term (12 Weeks)
The second term is set to start on Tuesday, 5 January 2027, and end on Thursday, 25 March 2027. Holidays for this term will be observed from 26 March to 19 April 2027.
Third Term (14 Weeks)
The final term will reopen on Tuesday, 20 April 2027, and conclude on Thursday, 22 July 2027, officially ending the academic year.
BECE Schedule
The Basic Education Certificate Examination will take place from Wednesday, 5 May to Wednesday, 12 May 2027.
Holidays and Breaks
The GES also reminded schools that all national public holidays must be observed within the academic calendar. Each term will also include a mandatory two-day mid-term break.
The Service urged school heads, teachers, parents, and guardians to take note of the schedule to ensure smooth planning and effective delivery of the academic year.
