The Chairman of the Civil Service Council, Dr. Lawrence Akanweeke Kannae, has praised the Ministry of the Interior for its punctuality and strong work ethic, describing these qualities as essential to achieving government objectives.
Speaking during a familiarisation visit to the ministry in Accra, Dr. Kannae emphasized the importance of time management in public service and noted that the Civil Service serves as the primary mechanism for implementing the government’s Resetting Agenda.
He explained that the purpose of the visit was to help the Council gain deeper insight into the operations of ministries, evaluate their performance, and identify opportunities to improve service delivery.
Dr. Kannae reiterated the Council’s commitment to assisting ministries in strengthening institutional efficiency and enhancing service delivery to support national development priorities.
Also addressing management and staff, Head of the Civil Service Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh highlighted the Ministry of the Interior’s vital responsibility in maintaining peace and public safety. He stressed that law and order are fundamental to national productivity, noting that widespread insecurity disrupts work and public administration.
“You cannot speak of order without law. If violence prevails, civil servants and workers cannot effectively perform their duties,” he said, urging the ministry to sustain peace and security while maintaining high standards.
In her remarks, the Acting Chief Director of the Ministry of the Interior, Mrs. Doreen Annan, welcomed the Council and described the visit as a sign of strong cooperation between the ministry and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service.
She noted that effective coordination and communication between both institutions are essential to building a responsive, efficient, and professional Civil Service.
Mrs. Annan assured the Council of the ministry’s continued commitment to internal security and the delivery of efficient, citizen-focused services, adding that discipline, professionalism, and integrity remain at the core of its work.
The visit included engagements with ministry staff and management, presentations on operational activities, and discussions on key challenges and priorities.
The Civil Service Council’s engagement forms part of a broader nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to improve public sector performance and service delivery.
