Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe has assured that the 100 newly acquired government buses will soon be deployed to enhance public transportation, especially during peak travel periods.
He explained that the delay in putting the buses into service is due to ongoing administrative and technical requirements, including driver training, vehicle registration, inspections, and servicing.
Speaking to journalists after appearing before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday, May 20, Mr. Nikpe said all necessary processes are being completed to ensure the buses are safely integrated into the national transport system.
He noted that although the buses have already arrived, they must first be fully registered and licensed, while drivers undergo mandatory training before deployment.
He added that proper procedures must be followed, including inspection and servicing, before the buses can be put on the road.
According to him, the rollout process is nearly complete, with driver training currently underway and expected to conclude within the coming days.
He expressed confidence that the buses would soon be operational, stating that once all requirements are met, they will be released into service.
Mr. Nikpe assured the public that Ghanaians will begin to see the buses in operation shortly after final preparations are completed.
