Three separate fatal road accidents recorded across Ireland during the bank holiday weekend have left three people dead, prompting renewed appeals from authorities for witnesses and information that could assist ongoing investigations.
The fatalities occurred in different parts of the country between Saturday and Sunday, involving both motorcycle and motor vehicle crashes.
One of the victims, a motorcyclist in his 50s, lost his life following a collision involving two motorcycles and a sport utility vehicle near Dunmahon in County Louth on Sunday afternoon. Emergency services responded to the scene, but the rider was pronounced dead following the incident.
Elsewhere in County Roscommon, a man in his 60s died after the vehicle he was travelling in was involved in a single-car crash on Sunday. Authorities have launched enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The weekend’s first fatality was recorded in the early hours of Saturday in Finglas, County Dublin, where a man in his 20s died following a single-vehicle accident.
The three incidents have brought the road death toll over the holiday period into focus, with investigators working to establish the factors that contributed to each crash.
Gardaí have commenced separate investigations into all three fatalities and are seeking assistance from members of the public. Officers are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who witnessed the crashes or motorists who may have been travelling in the affected areas and captured relevant footage on dashboard cameras.
The investigations remain ongoing as authorities continue efforts to piece together the events leading to the fatal collisions.
