The Government of Ghana has obtained official television broadcasting rights for the Black Stars’ matches at the FIFA World Cup, allowing fans across the country to watch all of Ghana’s games free of charge, President John Dramani Mahama has announced.
In a statement released on June 17, 2026, the President said the arrangement was intended to ensure that all Ghanaians can follow the national team’s World Cup journey as they prepare to face Panama in their opening fixture in Toronto.
Describing the initiative as a gesture to a football-loving nation, President Mahama said supporters throughout the country would be able to watch every moment of the tournament from their homes without cost.
The President also encouraged the Black Stars to represent the nation with pride as they embark on their fifth World Cup campaign.
Addressing the players, he said they carry not only the ball onto the pitch but also the aspirations, dreams, and identity of millions of Ghanaians. He noted that people from every corner of the country would be united in support of the team.
“You carry more than a ball. You are carrying the hopes, dreams, and heritage of a people,” he said. “From the streets of Chorkor to the plains of Bole, every Ghanaian heart beats in sync with yours.”
President Mahama described Ghana’s qualification for the tournament as evidence of the country’s determination and resilience, urging the players to draw motivation from the unwavering backing of supporters at home.
He called on the squad to play with commitment and purpose, particularly for young Ghanaians who look up to them as role models, expressing confidence that the team would make the nation proud on the global stage.
The President also appealed to Ghanaians living abroad, especially those in Toronto and across North America, to rally behind the Black Stars and provide strong support from the stands.
“Let the red, gold, and green illuminate the stands, and let our drums remind our boys that wherever a Ghanaian stands, home is never far away,” he said.
