Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena has officially been confirmed as the new leader of the Kantanka Empire following the reading of the will of the late Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka at the Accra High Court.
The confirmation was made on Monday, July 6, after the late founder’s final testament was formally read in court, bringing clarity to the succession of both the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Empire.
Speaking to journalists after the proceedings, Kristo Asafo Mission member Richard Brown, popularly known as Osebo the Zaraman, pledged his support for Akofena and the Safo family, saying he would honour the wishes of the late Apostle as outlined in the will.
He said he had no reason to oppose the decision if the will clearly entrusted all the late founder’s properties to Akofena, adding that Apostle Kwadwo Safo had always valued peace and that his final wishes should be respected.
The court’s decision follows recent comments by former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo, who maintained that her father left behind a valid will governing the administration of his estate.
According to her, public discussions had wrongly portrayed the dispute within the Kristo Asafo Mission as a battle over inheritance and ownership of church assets.
She argued that the real issue has always been ensuring the proper implementation of the directives contained in the late Apostle’s will, rather than a struggle over his wealth or control of the mission.
The succession process has nonetheless been marked by tensions within both the family and the church, including a recent shooting incident at Akofena’s residence.
Sarah Adwoa Safo was critically injured during the incident, and her family has announced plans to fly her abroad for further medical treatment.
