Ghanaian striker Prince Osei Owusu has distanced himself from allegations circulating on social media that he was dropped from the Black Stars squad after refusing to hand over a portion of his appearance fees and bonuses to the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
The claims originated from a viral video shared by a woman who identified herself as Owusu’s aunt. In the video, she alleged that GFA officials demanded 70 percent of the player’s earnings and that his refusal led to his exclusion from the national team.
However, sources close to the CF Montréal forward told JoySports the allegations are false. Owusu reportedly does not know the woman and has disassociated himself from both her identity and the claims. His camp stressed that he has never authorised anyone to speak on his behalf regarding his relationship with the GFA or his Black Stars career.
Owusu, who earned his first call-up for Ghana at the 2025 Kirin Cup, remains committed to representing the national team whenever selected. The 29-year-old heads into the 2026 FIFA World Cup after an impressive club season, scoring nine goals and providing six assists in 15 Major League Soccer appearances.
The viral video has sparked widespread debate online, though JoySports understands there is no evidence to support the allegations. As of publication, the GFA has not issued a statement. Owusu has made clear his focus remains on his football and contributing to the Black Stars.
