NPP constituency executive elections are underway across the country, with voting taking place at 385 polling centres under the supervision of the Electoral Commission (EC).
Polling began at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, and is expected to close at 4:00 p.m. Elections will continue in some areas on Sunday, July 12. However, voting is not taking place in a number of constituencies due to pending court cases and disputes over delegates’ electoral albums.
The EC says it has deployed all the necessary logistics, election materials and personnel to ensure the smooth conduct of the polls.
Speaking ahead of the exercise, the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, Samuel Dattoh Kwaah, said the Commission had completed all preparations for the elections.
To accommodate constituencies with large delegate populations, the EC increased the number of voting centres from the party’s 276 constituencies to 385 polling centres.
According to Mr Kwaah, ballot papers and electoral registers were distributed at the constituency level through collaboration between the EC and the NPP’s Constituency Election Committees.
He explained that elections have been suspended in some constituencies due to unresolved legal challenges and disagreements over the delegates’ register.
Mr Kwaah noted that constituencies affected by court cases or disputes relating to the electoral album or candidate disqualifications would hold their elections only after the issues have been resolved.
To ensure peaceful polls, the EC has worked with the National, Regional and Constituency Election Security Task Forces, with the Ghana Police Service providing security at the various voting centres.
The constituency executive elections form part of the NPP’s internal reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The party has already elected its presidential candidate and completed polling station and branch executive elections nationwide. It is expected to proceed with regional executive elections before concluding the process with the election of national executives.
