Dennis Edward Aboagye, popularly known as Miracles and a member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team, has been granted bail by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after his arrest in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct.
EOCO granted Mr Aboagye bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three justified sureties following several hours of discussions between his legal team and investigators after he was taken into custody on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
His arrest is linked to investigations into alleged financial and procurement irregularities at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), where he previously served as Executive Secretary.
According to EOCO, Mr Aboagye, former IMCCoD accountant Gerald Appiah and other individuals are being investigated over the alleged misappropriation, diversion, misapplication and theft of approximately GH¢55 million in public funds.
The anti-graft agency said the investigation was initiated after the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD petitioned EOCO to conduct further inquiries into a forensic audit covering the period from August 1, 2022, to February 2, 2025.
EOCO said the suspected offences under investigation include conspiracy to steal, stealing, using public office for personal gain, causing financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds, defrauding by false pretences, money laundering and other related offences.
Mr Aboagye’s arrest attracted a large crowd of party supporters and sympathisers to EOCO’s headquarters, where they called for his release.
In response, security agencies, including the military, police and national security personnel, were deployed to the area to maintain public order and manage traffic.
The NPP has condemned the arrest, describing it as an attempt to intimidate members of the opposition and shift attention from pressing national concerns. General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong cautioned that political power is temporary and warned that current government officials could face similar scrutiny under a future administration.
EOCO, however, insists that the arrest forms part of a lawful investigation and has assured the public that all suspects will be treated fairly and in accordance with due process.
