A 14-year-old boy has been charged by British police with a terrorism offence linked to alleged extreme right-wing ideology over a suspected plot to attack two mosques in south London.
The teenager was initially arrested last week in connection with alleged criminal damage to a vehicle. However, subsequent police searches uncovered documents that led investigators to charge him with preparing to carry out acts of terrorism.
Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, described the case as extremely serious and said the allegations were likely to cause significant concern among the public and the affected local communities.
Police said they do not believe the incident indicates a broader threat but confirmed that support has been offered to the two mosques involved.
