Amazon Web Services (AWS) executive Dave Brown, a longtime company leader and member of CEO Andy Jassy’s senior advisory group, is leaving Amazon after 19 years.
According to a memo from AWS CEO Matt Garman, Brown is departing to take up another role, although details about his next position were not disclosed. Brown most recently oversaw AWS’s compute and machine learning services.
In the memo, Garman said AWS remains in a strong position and expressed confidence in the company’s future opportunities. He added that Brown would remain with Amazon through the end of the month before moving on to his new role. An Amazon spokesperson declined to reveal where Brown is headed.
Brown will be succeeded by Dave Treadwell, AWS announced, with the transition taking effect on August 1. Treadwell currently serves as senior vice president of ecommerce foundation and, like Brown, is part of Amazon’s elite senior leadership team known as the S-team, which provides direct advice to CEO Andy Jassy.
Membership of the S-team is considered a significant recognition within Amazon’s leadership structure.
Brown was elevated to senior vice president in April and became one of AWS’s prominent public representatives, frequently delivering keynote speeches at the company’s major customer events in Las Vegas. He joined the S-team in 2023, which currently has 28 members.
