President John Dramani Mahama has spotlighted Foreign Affairs Minister and North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as a standout figure in his administration, praising him for combining international diplomacy with grassroots support.
At the sod‑cutting ceremony for the Juapong Model Market in the Volta Region, Mahama described Ablakwa as “among my hardest‑working ministers,” noting that he has consistently delivered results on assignments ranging from global negotiations to community welfare.
The president pointed to Ablakwa’s success in rallying international support for Ghana’s reparations resolution at the United Nations, calling it a breakthrough moment for the country’s foreign policy. He also credited him with orchestrating the evacuation of Ghanaians trapped in conflict zones abroad, arranging charter flights to bring citizens safely home.
But Mahama’s praise was not limited to diplomacy. He revealed that Ablakwa had procured 100 deep freezers for traders whose businesses will be disrupted during the redevelopment of the Juapong Market, a gesture aimed at cushioning livelihoods during the construction phase.
“His commitment to serving Ghana is exceptional,” Mahama said, urging residents to continue backing Ablakwa’s initiatives in the constituency.
The president’s remarks underscore Ablakwa’s dual role: a minister shaping Ghana’s global agenda while also delivering practical relief at home. For Mahama, that blend of international reach and local responsiveness is what makes Ablakwa indispensable to his team.
