U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to attend the FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain at the New York-New Jersey stadium on Sunday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has announced.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Leavitt said the president was looking forward to watching the tournament’s final match and described his attendance as a fitting conclusion to what she called the most-watched, safest and most successful World Cup hosted in the United States.
She said she was unsure whether Trump supported a particular team in the final but suggested journalists ask him directly, adding that he would likely have an interesting response.
Leavitt also revealed that Trump is scheduled to attend a FIFA reception at Trump Tower in New York City on Friday as part of events surrounding the tournament.
