Singer D4vd faces court over teen’s death
The criminal case against American musician D4vd enters a critical stage this week as prosecutors attempt to convince a Los Angeles court that there is enough evidence to put the singer on trial over the death of a teenage girl whose disappearance shocked fans and investigators alike.
The hearing centres on 13-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose remains were discovered inside a Tesla linked to the artist months after she was reported missing. The discovery triggered a murder investigation that eventually led to the arrest of the singer, born David Anthony Burke.
Prosecutors allege Burke was involved in the teenager’s death and have assembled a case they say includes forensic findings, surveillance footage, purchasing records and communications between the pair. Court filings claim the evidence points to an effort to conceal the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death.
Burke, 21, has denied all allegations and remains in custody without bail. His legal team maintains that he was not responsible for Hernandez’s death.
The case has attracted widespread attention due to Burke’s rapid rise from social media sensation to international recording artist. A ruling from the preliminary hearing will determine whether the prosecution’s evidence is strong enough for the matter to proceed to a full trial.
