Upper West Police arrest four suspects, recover 17 stolen motorbikes

The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested four suspected motorbike thieves and recovered 17 stolen motorbikes during a special anti-robbery operation carried out across the region.

In a statement issued on Thursday, July 23, police identified the suspects as Yusif Mohammed Ali, Abdulai Ibrahim, Abubakar Abdul Rashid and Mustapha Abdul Aziz Posy.

According to the police, the arrests were made between July 11 and July 15 in the communities of Wa, Charia and Hamile as part of efforts to clamp down on robbery and other criminal activities.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects admitted to stealing and selling motorbikes and are currently assisting investigators with further inquiries.

Police said the ongoing investigations have also resulted in the arrest of four individuals accused of purchasing some of the stolen motorbikes.

The suspects have been remanded into custody by the Wa Circuit Court and are scheduled to reappear on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

The Regional Police Command has appealed to owners of stolen motorbikes to visit their respective District Police Headquarters with valid proof of ownership to facilitate the recovery of their motorcycles.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Command also urged members of the public to continue providing prompt and reliable information to assist law enforcement in tackling crime across the region.
